This release comes to us from our friends at The Katra Film Series
UPDATE: The Katra Film Series which will be partnering once again with Footprint Network for their Summer Series has changed their air date from August 10th-15thto August 24th-28th.
The winning films takes home over $5,000 in prizes by JMR Rentals, Final Draft, Meditative Writing, International Screenwriting Association, Screenblade, and 3636 Studios.
The films in this season’s line up delve deeply in human nature, expressing it through humor, isolation, and adventure. The Mystery in Isolation section showcases dark works like Detour (Juefang Zhang), Clay (Leonard Rääf) and Afterdeath (Wylie Rush) which question our very humanity. We explore the meaning of community in the Together section with films like Kinky (Tayana Brumaire), State of Independence (Erica Mann), and La Gloria (Mary Evangelista). Finally, the Dark Laughter section lets out a chuckle in those dark, strange moments in life with films like Charles Darwin, Family Man (Steven Kraus), The Tampon (Erica Ortiz), and Icarus Stops for Breakfast (Abigail Zealey Bess).
Celebrating a diverse group of filmmakers, this program enjoys over 70% female leads, minority groups, and female filmmakers. It’s important for Katra Film Series that we continue the work toward an industry that portrays these groups accurately by giving filmmakers a platform they need to tell the stories they want to see on screen. Through these films, and many others to come, the Katra Film Series hopes to amplify those voices and continues to provide a diverse space where storytelling is colorful, vulnerable, and unique.
