This release comes to us from our friends at NYC Web Fest

Broadway star Julie Halston, actor Victor Williams, director Pete Chatmon and more announced on NYC Web West Jury as Festival goes virtual For 2020. Joining the panel are Film Writer Judith Davis, South African Writer & Comedian Marc Lottering, and Digital Creator Krista Hovespain.  The Festival will take place online November 13 – 15, 2020.

NYC Web Fest (NYCWF) has announced its 2020 jury, six industry professionals that include writers, producers and performers.  Once named a “must attend event for creators” by Huffpost, the festival continues to attract filmmakers from around the world, and last year’s Sixth Edition was no exception.  In fact, Best Web Series went to the Canadian production Hometurf (La Maison des folles) from Quebec – the first non-American series to win the grand prize.

Founder Lauren Atkins postponed the submission period in May when the coronavirus pandemic had most of the world in lockdown.  “The numbers coming out of New York were alarming.  With so many deaths and so many people unemployed, taking a pause was the right thing to do.  The entire world was gripped in fear.”  It took the protests following the death of George Floyd to change her mind and move the festival online  “ I am continuously thanked by filmmakers of color and the LGBTQ community for creating this space in the first place.  As a woman of color born in South Africa, it truly means a lot.”

Lindsay Pugh has returned as Director of Programming and will be joined by new team member Zerelda Rogriguez who has come on as Programming Consultant.  Also new this year are Robert Watson, in charge of Social Media Marketing, Krista Hovespian who will co-produce the online Awards Gala, and Graphic Designer  MelimeL.  Liv Martens is back as Web Designer.

Submissions are currently open until the end of August and once again NYCWF is accepting Web Series, Pilot Episodes and Short Films.  More details can be found at nycwebfest.com
