Katra Film Series-Update

This release comes to us from our friends at The Katra Film Series

This summer, Katra Film Series streams its largest virtual event to date, featuring 30 shorts and 7 features from around the world over 5 nights (August 24th-28th). The festival seeks to provide a platform for deserving filmmakers to share their work with new audiences and connect with future collaborators during this time of limited socialization. Every block will be followed by a Zoom filmmaker talk-back open to all audiences, and all viewers are invited to vote for the festival’s Audience Choice Award Winners who will receive prize packages worth a total of $10,000 courtesy of Final Draft, JMR Rentals, Screenblade, 3636 Studio, International Screenwriters’ Association, and Meditative Writing.

The summer edition hosts 30 short films and 6 features from ten different countries inching the United States. Some notable filmmakers in the lineup include John Gray, creator of hit CBS show Ghost Whisperer starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, now sharing his bittersweet dramatic short Extra Innings, and Andrew Krakower, director of The Children’s War, a widely distributed documentary recognized by the United Nations for shedding light on the atrocities of a decades-long civil war in Northern Uganda, now exploring the lives of child Buddhist monks in Kathmandu in his film Yarne (pictured above). Other topics explored in the lineup include the race dynamics of a supposedly diverse high school in Ryan Ng’s We Are Herricks, the complexities of consent in Erica Ortiz’s The Tampon, and the creation of a tiny house village for the homeless in Sarah Megyesy & Guillermo Roqués’ documentary The Right to Rest.

Audience members who are interested are invited to reserve space to attend a small socially distant celebration on Saturday, August 29th at HiO Tribeca, where awards will be announced and presented to filmmakers amidst food, drinks, and red carpet photos and interviews!
