Episode 1216: Tara Westwood

Hosted by Jason Godbey

On this episode actor/director Tara Westwood talks about her award winning short, Triggered. Westwood grew up in Canada and began her career as a model in Europe. She went on to star in The Grudge (2020) and has recently appeared Fleishman in Trouble with Jesse Eisenberg and stars in Plane with Gerard Butler opening only in theaters January 13th.

Triggered, a short film concerning the topic of gun violence that has earned acclaim on the film festival circuit, is Westwood’s directorial debut and stars Isiah Whitlock Jr. (Da Five Bloods), Caitlin Mehner (Ocean’s 8), and Robert John Burke (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever). Westwood stars as a senator who is awakened in the middle of the night by home invaders who hold her and her husband (Burke) at gunpoint.

It is not a subtle film. The themes are up front, and the pace is unrelenting. You feel like your watching the climax of a movie. Westwood has us feeling like we’re in the room with these people witnessing this conflict as a fifth unseen character. The topic of gun violence will spark debate in just about any audience, and this film is sure to start a conversation which is undoubtibly its objective.
